Over the years, the mobile device industry pursued ultra-slim chassis designs desperately while completely disconnecting the battery-draining neural processors and displays with unnecessarily high refresh rates. However, the preliminary POCO F9 Ultra 5G hardware leaks suggest an alternative approach. In fact, the manufacturer focuses on providing substantial battery power and thermal control solutions in favor of conventional ergonomics. Moreover, the F9 Ultra appeared to be tailored for the users that consider smartphones as their secondary computing platform.
Regarding the core specs, the POCO F9 Ultra received the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 mobile platform with a cutting-edge 3 nm process. Early benchmarks hint that this SoC will provide excellent multi-thread performance, hitting over 4 million AnTuTu points. It features a hybrid architecture with Oryon V3 CPU cores that clock up to 4.6 GHz. However, most competitive SoCs throttle the clock speeds severely during demanding applications. Meanwhile, the F9 Ultra’s thermal solution promises to utilize a large vapor chamber to avoid excessive heating during the intensive workloads. These include video editing, 3D rendering with native ray tracing, large language model operations, and sustained emulation. Furthermore, the phone supports 16GB LPDDR5X memory with a bandwidth of 9600 MHz to prevent any application-specific slowdowns. Finally, the 105 W ultra-fast charging, 50 W wireless charging, and 27 W reverse wired charging capabilities enable it to reach a hundred percent battery within a little more than an hour during regular use.
The POCO F9 Ultra features a stunning 6.9” AMOLED panel with an aspect ratio of 1200×2608. According to the leaks, it delivers an extraordinary display refresh rate of 185 Hz. It should ensure the smoothest video playback and UI transitions in the smartphone segment to date. Furthermore, the phone has one of the highest ever recorded peak brightness of 10,000 nits. However, its actual outdoor brightness would be limited by the thermal constraints. The front cover features Corning Gorilla Glass 7i to protect the screen from breakages, cracks, and scratches. Notably, most flagship smartphones continue using 120 Hz displays despite the significantly higher battery drain. In fact, the POCO F9 Ultra needs to implement special power management algorithms to eliminate unnecessary drain during a document reading or any other non-intensive task.
One of the most notable innovations rumored for this device concerns the substantial battery. The F9 Ultra utilizes a single-charged silicon-carbon battery with a capacity of 8050 mAh. Consequently, its weight amounts to around 235 grams making it one of the heaviest flagship smartphones in 2023. Such a design allows the F9 Ultra to support up to two days of intense usage without recharging. The hyper-threaded processors and vapor chamber cooling combined with the large Li-metal battery will keep the phone from overheating even after extensive 5G tethering or video streaming. During field testing conducted by the Xiaomi, it appears that fifty-minute HyperCharge sprints keep the smartphone at the top of its performance. Finally, the POCO F9 Ultra offers 50 W wireless charging and 27 W reverse wired charging for connected devices.
POCO F9 Ultra’s 200 MP main sensor (200 MP, 1/1.2”, f/1.68) with a dedicated 5x periscope telephoto and a periscope ultra-wide field-of-view photography have an f/1.80 aperture. At the same time, the leaked firmware suggests that the POCO F9 Ultra has an unconventional approach to its photography capabilities. In particular, it appears that the phone utilizes a higher resolution sensor without additional overprocessing. As a result, photographers and videographers will appreciate the true-to-sensor colors and outstanding noise control. Finally, the F9 Ultra received a set of premium audio components, including dual stereo speakers with a proprietary Bose sound tuning and a separate internal subwoofer.
As for the POCO F100 Ultra’s connectivity options, it received Wi-Fi 7, 3.0, and an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner to enable unmatched security and convenience. The device has an industry-leading IP68/IP69 waterproof and dust-resistance rating with an integrated Xiaomi Surge T1+ multi-constellation tuner. It ensures that the POCO F9 Ultra will maintain stable mobile connections inside concrete buildings or during the underground exploration. The phone utilizes Android 16 with the HyperOS mobile platform that promises up to four major OS upgrades and six years of security updates.
POCO has reserved a flagship 5G price position that starts from approximately €999 in the European Union. In comparison, most mainstream flagships remain at around €1200 and offer lesser battery capacity, lower peak brightness, and an older chipset. As a result, the POCO F9 Ultra became an outstanding choice for the enterprise-level applications. It provides a sustainable energy platform for multiple-day expeditions.
