At first glance, the Poco F9 Pro's display may look almost identical to the panel used on its predecessor. The screen size and resolution remain unchanged, and anyone familiar with the previous generation could easily assume that Poco has simply carried over the same display hardware. However, there are some important improvements beneath the surface, particularly when it comes to brightness and refresh rate.
The Poco F9 Pro features a 6.59-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1,156 x 2,510 pixels. The panel also supports 12-bit color depth, allowing it to reproduce a very wide range of colors and gradients. For a phone positioned toward performance-focused users, the display specification is particularly ambitious, with support for refresh rates of up to 185Hz.
HDR support is also extensive. The Poco F9 Pro supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision and HDR Vivid, covering the major HDR standards that users are likely to encounter across streaming services and compatible video content. Combined with the OLED panel's deep blacks and strong contrast, this makes the display particularly well suited to movies, games and other visually demanding content.
The biggest improvement over the previous generation, however, is brightness.
Our measurements confirm Poco's claim that the F9 Pro's screen is brighter than before. With a 75% white test pattern, the display reached almost 1,300 nits under our testing conditions. When the size of the white test area was reduced to 10%, the panel reached approximately 4,100 nits.
Those numbers are important because they show that the F9 Pro is capable of producing a very bright image when displaying HDR highlights or other small areas of high-intensity content. The difference between a large 75% white area and a smaller 10% area also illustrates how OLED displays can deliver substantially higher peak brightness when only a limited portion of the screen needs to be illuminated.
In practical terms, this means the Poco F9 Pro should provide a very good HDR viewing experience. Bright highlights in compatible movies and videos can appear significantly more intense, while the OLED panel's ability to turn individual pixels off completely allows dark scenes to retain deep blacks.
Outdoor visibility is another area where the higher brightness should make a noticeable difference. A phone can have an excellent display on paper, but if its brightness is limited, using it outdoors under direct sunlight can quickly become frustrating. The F9 Pro's measured brightness gives it enough headroom to remain comfortable to use in bright environments, including sunny days.
Display Brightness: A Clear Step Forward
The Poco F9 Pro's measured maximum brightness puts it ahead of its predecessor in our comparison.
Under the 75% white test pattern, the F9 Pro reached 1,270 nits in the comparison figures, compared with 1,094 nits for the Poco F8 Pro. That represents a noticeable improvement despite both phones using a display with the same basic 6.59-inch size and 1,156 x 2,510-pixel resolution.
The F9 Pro also sits alongside several higher-end competitors in the comparison. The Poco F9 Ultra, for example, reached 1,283 nits, while the Galaxy S26 recorded 1,383 nits. The Honor 600 Pro reached 1,766 nits, and the Motorola Edge 70 Pro topped the comparison at 1,980 nits.
The F9 Pro therefore isn't the absolute brightest panel in this particular group, but its result is still strong, especially considering the phone's positioning.
The Xiaomi 17T Pro recorded 1,069 nits despite using a larger 6.83-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with a 1,280 x 2,772-pixel resolution. This comparison shows that display size and resolution alone don't determine brightness performance.
At the opposite end of the scale, the F9 Pro can reduce its brightness all the way down to just 1 nit. That is useful in a completely dark room, where a bright screen can become uncomfortable even when the phone is set to its lowest conventional brightness level.
A minimum brightness of 1 nit means the F9 Pro can produce a sufficiently dim image for nighttime use, whether you're checking notifications in bed, reading in a dark room or using the phone with the lights switched off.
185Hz Refresh Rate Is Primarily for Gaming
One of the more eye-catching specifications of the Poco F9 Pro's display is its maximum 185Hz refresh rate. However, there is an important distinction between supporting a 185Hz refresh rate and running the entire phone's interface at 185Hz.
The display is capable of reaching 185Hz, but only under certain conditions. Games that support high-refresh-rate gaming, particularly titles with uncapped frame rates or explicit HRR gaming support, are the main scenarios where users can take advantage of the panel's full refresh-rate capability.
For everyday use, the experience is somewhat different.
With the Default refresh rate setting enabled, the Poco F9 Pro operates at a maximum of 120Hz. This is still a high refresh rate and is more than sufficient to make normal scrolling, animations and system navigation feel smooth.
During testing, the 120Hz behavior remained consistent across virtually all of the applications we tried. Even Google Chrome was able to operate at up to 120Hz, which is worth mentioning because browsers on some competing smartphones are inexplicably limited to lower refresh rates.
For everyday applications, then, 120Hz is effectively the ceiling unless a particular game or application meets the conditions required to activate the higher refresh rate.
The phone also intelligently reduces the refresh rate when a high refresh rate isn't necessary. When the display isn't being actively used, the system can drop to 60Hz. Video playback on services such as YouTube and Netflix also runs at 60Hz.
This behavior is sensible because constantly running the display at a very high refresh rate would consume more power without providing a meaningful benefit during situations such as watching 30fps or 60fps video.
The result is a display that can adapt its refresh rate according to what you're doing. Everyday interaction benefits from the smoothness of 120Hz, compatible games can push the panel significantly further, and video playback doesn't waste battery by maintaining an unnecessarily high refresh rate.
For gamers, the 185Hz capability is therefore more of a specialized feature than an everyday setting. But it gives the F9 Pro additional headroom for compatible games and reinforces Poco's focus on performance.
Battery Life: More Capacity, Much Better Endurance
The display isn't the only area where the Poco F9 Pro improves upon its predecessor. Battery performance is another major strength, and the improvements are more significant than the relatively small increase in battery capacity might suggest.
The Poco F9 Pro is equipped with a 6,330mAh battery. That is only a modest increase compared with the 6,210mAh battery inside the Poco F8 Pro. On paper, the difference may not look particularly impressive. The F9 Pro adds only 120mAh, which is a relatively small increase for a modern smartphone.
However, the battery test results tell a different story.
The Poco F9 Pro achieved an Active Use Score of 19 hours and 6 minutes. That represents a substantial improvement over the previous generation and demonstrates that battery endurance depends on considerably more than battery capacity alone.
The phone delivered particularly notable improvements in web browsing and video streaming scenarios. Those are important real-world workloads because they represent two of the most common ways people use a smartphone throughout the day.
Web browsing can involve a combination of display activity, processor usage, wireless connectivity and frequent page loading, while video streaming places a sustained load on the display and network connection. Strong results in both categories suggest that the F9 Pro is well optimized for common everyday activities.
The battery performance is also impressive when the F9 Pro is compared with its rivals.
Among the phones included in the comparison, the Xiaomi 17T Pro is the only handset with longer battery life. That phone has a considerably larger 7,000mAh battery, so its advantage in endurance is not particularly surprising.
What makes the Poco F9 Pro's result more interesting is that it manages to deliver excellent endurance without relying on an enormous battery.
The 6,330mAh cell is already larger than what is found in many conventional flagship smartphones, but the F9 Pro's 19:06 Active Use Score indicates that Poco has managed to extract considerable efficiency from the hardware and software combination.
Battery Capacity Doesn't Tell the Whole Story
It is tempting to judge smartphone battery life purely by looking at the capacity printed on the specifications sheet. However, two phones with similar battery capacities can deliver dramatically different real-world endurance.
The Poco F9 Pro is a good example of why capacity should be considered alongside actual testing results.
Its battery is only modestly larger than the F8 Pro's, yet the difference in endurance is much more substantial. This suggests that improvements in power management, display efficiency, chipset behavior and software optimization can all contribute to longer battery life.
The display itself may also play a role. While the F9 Pro can reach extremely high brightness levels and offers a 185Hz gaming mode, it doesn't maintain those settings unnecessarily.
The system can reduce the refresh rate to 60Hz during video playback and when the display isn't being actively used. Everyday applications generally top out at 120Hz instead of constantly running at 185Hz.
This kind of dynamic behavior helps balance performance with efficiency.
Users get the benefits of a very high refresh rate when the situation calls for it, while the phone avoids spending battery on features that don't provide a visible advantage during less demanding tasks.
That approach is particularly important for a performance-oriented smartphone. A device designed for gaming needs to deliver high frame rates and a responsive display, but it also needs to remain practical as an everyday phone.
A Display Designed for Both Gaming and Media
Taken as a whole, the Poco F9 Pro's display specifications reveal a panel designed to serve two different audiences.
For gamers, the headline feature is clearly the 185Hz refresh rate. Compatible games can take advantage of the higher refresh rate, potentially delivering a more responsive experience when frame rates are high enough to benefit from it.
For everyone else, the more meaningful improvements are likely to be the increased brightness, strong HDR support and consistent 120Hz refresh rate.
The 6.59-inch size also strikes a balance between screen real estate and overall usability. It provides enough space for gaming, video playback and web browsing without moving into the very large display category.
The 1,156 x 2,510-pixel resolution provides a sharp image as well, while the OLED technology ensures the display can produce the deep blacks and strong contrast expected from a modern premium smartphone panel.
Support for 12-bit color depth further strengthens the display's multimedia credentials. When paired with HDR10+, Dolby Vision and HDR Vivid, the F9 Pro is clearly intended to handle a broad range of high-quality content formats.
Of course, not every application or video will take advantage of all these capabilities. The 185Hz refresh rate is dependent on software and game support, while HDR benefits require compatible content. Nevertheless, having the hardware available gives the phone considerable flexibility.
Overall Display and Battery Performance
The Poco F9 Pro may initially appear to carry over the same display from the previous generation, but the testing results show that this is not simply a case of reusing an old panel without meaningful changes.
The 6.59-inch OLED screen retains the familiar 1,156 x 2,510-pixel resolution while adding stronger brightness performance and support for a much higher 185Hz refresh rate in compatible gaming scenarios.
The brightness improvement is particularly convincing. Reaching around 1,300 nits with a 75% white test pattern and approximately 4,100 nits with a 10% white pattern gives the display plenty of headroom for HDR content and outdoor use.
The minimum brightness of 1 nit is equally useful at the other end of the scale, allowing the screen to become sufficiently dim for dark environments.
The refresh-rate system is also sensibly implemented. Although 185Hz is reserved for supported high-frame-rate games, the regular interface can still run at up to 120Hz, while video playback and inactive-screen scenarios can fall back to 60Hz.
Battery life is arguably even more impressive.
The 6,330mAh battery is only slightly larger than the F8 Pro's 6,210mAh unit, yet the F9 Pro achieved an Active Use Score of 19 hours and 6 minutes. Its strong results in web browsing and video streaming further reinforce its ability to handle everyday use for extended periods.
